Music and Worship Ministry

Pentecostal Anointing Church

(I Chronicles 23:5; II Chronicles 7:6; 29:26) It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the Lord; and when they lifted up their voice with the … instruments of music, … that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the Lord; so that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of the Lord had  filled the house of God.”

MUSIC DEPARTMENT:

The PACOG Music Department is responsible for the composition, rehearsal and performance of all the songs during church service and outreaches. Members of this department sometimes collaborate with other church choirs and other artistes for ministration performances.

The Music Ministry is headed by a Pastor/Minister / directly under the supervision of a pastor/minister. The Music Ministry leads the congregation in worship and provide an avenue through which all individuals may share their gift and be an integral part of the worship. This is done through the sharing of the gospel of Jesus Christ through contemporary music, stage art and dance encouraging the church and all believers in their walk with Christ. The Music Ministry also spread the Word of God through music experiences as the basis of this faith is the whole counsel of God as revealed in the Holy Scripture.

Role And Responsibility Of The Music Ministry:

– In charge and lead worship and praise at all times

– Team up with the media ministry in making sure all microphones and sound are set for worship

– Rehearse and lead and help people’s heart and focus on God and prepare their hearts for the preaching

– The music ministry of the church serve’s as a support role in the worship service. (We are commanded to praise God throughout the scriptures. Psalm 149:1 says, “Praise ye the LORD. Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise in the congregation of saints.” It is pretty clear that we are to sing to the Lord. I Thessalonians 2:19-20 says, “For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming? For ye are our glory and joy.”

– The Music ministry preaches Christ. Music is a great tool of evangelism as well. The church musicians are not just there for the saved, but they are also preaching Christ to the lost.

– The Music ministry try to instill in its members the reason for their being in the ministry loft is to help lead the congregation in the and for whatever else the Pastor may need the praise and worship team or choir do. eg our offering to God as the congregation gives their offerings. Any special music schedule for a program weekdays/Sunday (solo, instrumentalist, etc.)

– The ministry share and discuss the texts, as well as the rationale for choosing various hymns, songs, etc with its members at all times which can shape the faith of 1st the members of the ministry and then the congregation.

– Rehearse for other programs. These special outside events gives the ministry a chance to prepare an extended work that may not be suited to the normal weekday and Sunday evening and morning services but that could contribute to the spiritual growth of the congregation.

PERSONAL:

– Take the time to be spiritually focused before beginning a worship service.

– Be on time and ready to sing when the service begins.

– Concentrate on the worship service, actively participating in all aspects of the service

– Learn about the structure and meaning of the various services and the changing cycles of the service.

– Understand the meaning of the songs (music), hymns and their significance in the service. Remember, singing is not simple a performance, but an act of worship “singing is believing.”

– Refrain from creating distractions. (e.g., milling around, passing notes, talking).

– Not all ministry members are trained musicians, able to read music and experienced in singing with a group. However, we believe even with “amateurs” and “volunteers,” choir members can grow in their knowledge of music and create a sound that matches the beauty of our services and their surroundings – striving to be as perfect and beautiful as possible as we offer up worship to God.

Note: (Training Sessions)

– Attend rehearsals. Remember this ministry is not a group of individuals wearing the same robe; it is a unit, a team, each supporting the other. This teamwork is learned through participating in rehearsals.

– Be punctual for rehearsals and all church services./programs

– Be respectful of each other, the priest, and the director. Even though singers may have good suggestions to offer during rehearsals, the director has the final word and works with the priest to plan and coordinate the music for the worship services of the church. If you do have a suggestion, it’s best to offer it before or after the rehearsal so rehearsal time doesn’t get bogged down with discussion.

– Be open-minded to learning new music – refrain from “we have always done it this way.”

– Keep your eyes on the director for direction and cues. (Mark your music with the director’s instructions and keep your music in proper order).

– Be sensitive to tempo, balance, dynamics, articulation, and phrasing when singing, according to your director’s instruction.

 – Warm-up your voice before rehearsals and services, and use your singing voice at other times during the week

– Again, because ministry members are not always trained musicians, they should take advantage of as many opportunities as possible to improve as church musicians. Which should be the concern of the head of ministry.

– The members in this ministry should participate in learning experiences that offer opportunities for them to grow in the use of vocal techniques, introduce them to new repertoire, and help them learn more about the services, music, and tenets of our faith. Work to improve your music knowledge even if you are not a trained musician. Continue to improve your music reading skills and vocal techniques.
